The end of summer is near, so let’s make the best of it while it last. Doc Lounge Turku invites you to come rollin’ on your skateboards and gather in Brinkkalan Piha to watch The Blackboard, by Marquis Bradshaw.
On the documentary’s official website, Bradshaw says that “The film aims to challenge what it means to be black in America by examining the issue of acceptance within the black community through the lens of skateboarding culture.” Doc Lounge Turku feel that it is important and interesting to discuss an obvious but hidden issue in the skateboarding scene, and to connect it to the local scene in Turku.
The event will also feature the premiere of local skate documentary Tour de Turku, by Miro Silvennoisen. He has previously made several films about the skate scene in Turku, and has followed local skaters wherever they were rolling and showing off their tricks.
The evening starts at 8 pm, with great grooves by DJ X-Paroni and a pop-up shop by Lasten_osasto selling clothing and skateboards! Refreshments can be purchased at Kirjakahvila. Once the sun has gone down and the natural light has dimmed then the screenings can start at 10 pm.
Guess what, it’s free!
In September the official Doc Lounge Turku autumn season will begin and there will be the usual monthly screenings of top quality documentaries at Bar Ö. They will publish their selection soon, so stay tuned and follow the Doc Lounge Turku Facebook page!
